Nationwide Children’s Hospital,  in Columbus, Ohio, plans a $730 million expansion that will include 11 projects. The must interesting aspect of this expansion is the new emphasis on behavioral health, which is increasingly seen (belatedly) as crucial in all healthcare.

The hospital calls the planned behavioral-health pavilion  the centerpiece of its expansion,  and asserts that it will be the “most comprehensive facility of its kind nationally.” The hospital said that  an estimated 11 percent of children ages eight to 11 have a mental illness, with that rising to 22 percent among  young people 13 to 18, and that  only half of these young people now receive behavioral healthcare.
