Suburbs getting fancier care

Here’s a nice review of the accelerating phenomenon of big urban teaching hospitals expanding some of their advanced and sophisticated operations into suburbs with affluent, well-insured patients. They’re mostly using partnerships with suburban hospitals to do this.
While a few years ago, most patients had to go into the city to get the most advanced care, now many can stay in their leafy suburbs.

“Academic medical centers that create multitiered partnerships that include retail clinics and medical homes along with community hospitals and physician groups will ‘reap the most value” in the transition to fee for value from fee for service, Igor Belokrinitsky, a partner at PwC Strategy&, toldĀ Becker’s Hospital Review.
