He noted the fact that U.S. healthcare is mostly built on an episodic model, rather than on a model that helps individuals manage their chronic conditions, is a major part of its cost and quality problems.
He discussed the challenge for insurers to move from what he called a “managed care chassis”— which focuses on such transactional tasks as handling claims and processing preauthorizations—to companies primarily focused on easing integration between the system’s silos.
