What makes a satisfied physician?

Jackson Healthcare has come out with its  “Physician Trends 2016 Report.”  It’s interesting but dated because it doesn’t take into consideration the full effects of the Affordable Care Act. It’s based on the 2011-14 period.

Among the findings:

  • 64 percent of physicians reported that they would pursue a medical career again in 2014, down from 69 percent in 2011.
  • More than half of  the responding physicians reported suffering from burnout.
  • Satisfied  physicians were most likely to be 25-44 years old.
  • Dissatisfied physicians were most likely 45-65 years old.
  • Satisfied physicians most likely worked no more eight hours daily.
  • Dissatisfied physicians tended to (have to?)  work more than eight hours daily.
  • Physicians employed by a hospital or other healthcare organization were more likely to be satisfied than those who had only worked  in private practices.
  • Satisfied physicians were more  likely to have patients with private insurance.
  • Dissatisfied physicians were more likely to report  that they had  lost patients because of the ACA.
