When physicians can’t see beyond obesity

This New York Times piece reports on  what obese patients should do when physicians cannot see past their sick patients’ weight, “dismissing all other medical problems as simply a consequence of being so heavy.”

“Patients with severe obesity will experience that stigma inside and outside the healthcare system,”  Scott Kahan,  M.D., an obesity specialist at Georgetown University, told The Times.

“The Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at the University of Connecticut recommends that patients go into a doctor’s office as prepared as possible with questions they would like the doctor to address, said Rebecca Puhl, its deputy director.”
