How hospitals use ‘creative coding’ to create astronomically expensive bills

Read how hospitals  manipulate codes to maximize the bills they send to patients and insurers. It’s one reason why U.S. healthcare is by far the world’s most expensive.

The article in The New York Times includes this:

“For years, creative coding has been winning over what the government calls ‘correct coding,’ meaning coding that gives providers their due, but without exaggeration. Indeed, each attempt by the government to control questionable coding to enhance providers’ revenue has seemed to only fuel more attempts.”
