In what will presumably affect the utilization of healthcare, the Feds report that calories consumed daily by the typical U.S. adult are in their first sustained decline since federal statistics began to track the matter. Warnings about the adverse effects of overeating, and overdrinking of sugary drinks, are finally having an effect.
And the declines include most major demographic groups — including higher- and lower-income families, and African-Americans and whites — though they vary somewhat by group.
