Clearly there’s a problem with physician workflow!
An Annals of Internal Medicine study says that for each hour physicians work directly with patients, they spend about two hours on EHR and other desk work during their regular work days.
The researchers also found that physicians spend an additional one to two hours on computer and clerical work after hours. However, the study notes that physicians still use the bulk of their time during appointments directly engaging with patients, spending nearly 53 percent of time talking with and examining patients and 37 percent of time on EHR and desk work in the exam room.
