2 Calif. pediatric hospitals to merge

Santa Rosa (Calif.) Memorial Hospital and the University of California at San Francisco’s Benioff Children’s Hospital will merge, in order, they say, to boost pediatric-care services in the region, reports a local newspaper, The Press Democrat.

Officials at Sonoma, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health, which runs Memorial Hospital, said pediatricians contracted by St. Joseph Health will work with UCSF outpatient pediatric services to expand care at Memorial Hospital.

Officials said that the joint venture will mean that  some expectant mothers won’t have t0 to travel to San Francisco for neonatal and pediatric care. The partnership will also use telemedicine for consultation,  widening access to pediatric specialists.

The venture will be named the Center for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health.
