For-profit and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare plans to sell eight U.S. hospitals in four markets and all nine of its British facilities to reduce debt, with the hope of yielding $900 million to $1 billion.
In a further indication of how it (and other big systems) seek to pare costs and raise cash in these more competitive times as more inpatient services are being transformed into outpatient ones, Tenet investors are also debating whether to break up the company along its three main business lines: hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and revenue-cycle software.
