David Chou, vice president and chief information officer at Children’s Mercy Hospital, in Kansas City, Mo., says that CIOs should worry less about keeping up with the latest technological breakthroughs and more about making decisions affected by technology.
“My role is to provide business value through the use of technology,” he told FierceHealthIT. “How can I improve the physicians’ lives? How can I help the organization generate more revenue while creating a better experience for everyone who enters the building?”
He said that CIOs must spend more time managing relationships with service partners, in, for example, infrastructure and security.
“Traditionally, CIOs like to have a lot of control. It’s really about letting go of some of the control areas and working smarter, not harder, utilizing partners a little bit better and really letting the experts run those commodity -like services.”
