What is it about workflow,  clinician culture and rigor, or lack thereof, of oversight culture that can explain why physician assistants and nurse practitioners have been e-prescribing at a higher rate than physicians in the emergency department of one major pediatric hospital?

Researchers at Children’s National Health System, in Washington, D.C., found that physicians in the ED e-prescribed 31 percent of the time, far less than the 42 percent rate among nonphysician prescribers.

This article from MedCity News seeks to answer the question.

The study also found that the e-prescribing rate was higher during daytime shifts and on Tuesdays, the lowest-volume day in the emergency room.
