Herewith is a review of examples of the emerging model of hybrid academic-community cancer centers. Among other things, the increasingly popular new model lets “closet academicians” in community cancer centers finally be able to participate in oncological research. And it provides a wider range of data from patients, and thus treatment-outcome data, than would be available from academic hospitals only.
