Fla. lets pharmacists provide anti-overdose med without physician prescription

heroin

Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill Friday letting pharmacies provide naloxone, a medicine that reverses heroin  and other opioid overdose, without a prescription from a physician.

The new law lets pharmacists  dispense the emergency opioid antagonist similar to how they provide the flu shot or epi-pens to individuals with allergies.

The new law not only shows the  extent of the opioid-addiction emergency. It’s also another sign of the increasing role of non-physician clinicians.
