Radiologists urged to end turf battles with other specialties

Attendees at the American College of Radiology’s annual meeting were urged to avoid turf ways with physicians in other specialties, most notably with cardiologists and orthopedic physicians and especially in matters involving federal and private insurance payments.

Radiologists have spent much time and energy battling  other specialties for ownership of traditional  (and very lucrative) radiology services.

Now the mantra is to collaborate with other specialities in lobbying Congress and other institutions and, so to speak, to share the wealth.

Physicians top list of highest-paid groups

A look at CNN Money and PayScale.com‘s list of highest-paying  types of jobs in America (on average) suggests one of the  major reasons that U.S. healthcare costs are astronomical. The top three jobs are anesthesiologists, radiologists and general practitioners.

Anesthesiologists earned median  pay of $335,000, radiologists $316,000 and general practitioners $179,000.
Median household income in the United States is about $50,000.
