In a move that’s unlikely to help its public relations, Blue Shield of California sued a former public policy director, Michael Johnson, accusing him of disclosing confidential company information.
Mr. Johnson worked at Blue Shield for 12 years and left in March. Then he started a public campaign against Blue Shield, denouncing the “nonprofit” for cheating the public and operating too much like its for-profit competitors, including gargantuan executive salaries.
The Los Angeles Times noted that “California Franchise Tax Board cited some of those same reasons last year in revoking the insurer’s longtime exemption to state income taxes.”
